Many of them are conditioned to be “individuals” in a very restrictive sense, one that renders inconceivable the idea of fighting for the common good instead of the “absolute freedom of the individual” that they have been led to believe exists. There are many whose spirits and hopes for a better world have been broken by the system and have decided or been taught to put their personal well-being before everything else out of a contempt for the masses, because “people are naturally evil,” “selfish,” “stupid,” or some other inherent vice, as well as contempt for a “democratically elected government” made up of the same evil, worthless pawns. No one else is watching out for them; no one who seeks power for any reason is to be trusted, and there is no alternative but total self-focus. Without challenging any one of these premises specifically, we challenge the conclusions such “individualists” draw from them.
